In Second Sight, Dr. Judith Orloff shares her journey to becoming a psychiatrist and practicing intuitive. And as I recommend it as an essential read, I was very keen to review her subsequent book Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing — 5 Steps to Physical, Emotional and Sexual Wellness.
As a physician, Dr. Orloff understands first hand that the medical community can no longer ignore the role that the mind and spirit play in the overall health of the body. To her the future of medicine lies in the integration of intuition with what we typically think of as conventional treatments.
But in Intuitive Healing, we – the would-be patients – are Dr. Orloff's audience. It is up to us to take a more active role in our health and not, in her words, 'leave your healing to chance'. Her approach, like her writing, is honest, frank and uncomplicated.
Her framework to unlocking your own intuitive healing abilities consists of five steps:
- Notice your beliefs
- Be in your body
- Sense your body's subtle energy
- Ask for inner guidance
- Listen to your dreams
The steps are easy to understand. The challenge, like any tool of self-awareness, is the extent to which we are willing to apply them for growth. Herein lies the true value of this book.
Throughout Intuitive Healing, Dr. Orloff illustrates how to apply these basic tools with profound results to become aware of the body's energy system, maintain one's physical health, engage in self-diagnosis and, most importantly, to activate the healing process.
Dr. Orloff is one of the few within what you might call the establishment who recognises that intuition has a key role to play alongside the conventional medical doctor in the field of health care. Perhaps it's because she is a doctor herself. Or perhaps it's because she's an intuitive. But either way, she writes with a poignancy and an authenticity that can change your life.
