Far too many people in this world underestimate the power of their belief systems. Indeed many people I work with tell me that they aren't even sure what beliefs they hold. It truly is shocking because what we believe in we give energy to and what we give energy to we create. This is the premise to The Magic of Believing by Claude Bristol.
First published in 1948, Bristol's Magic is one those self-help classics that I think everyone should read. Not everyone will get it. For some it will seem too simplistic. For them, life needs to be complicated to be real. For others, they'll get it. But they'll be too stuck in their ways of thinking (read believing) to do anything about it. For everyone, however, this book has the potential to turn their lives around.
The writing style and anecdotes may be somewhat dated. But I find it refreshing to know that this message about the power of what we choose to believe in was out there way back when and cannot be dismissed as New Age drivel. The pages of my copy have yellowed but it's still readily available. The good ones always are.
If you know what you want in life, you can see it in your mind's eye and you're prepared to put in some effort to retrain your thoughts, then Magic could be the magic you've been looking for!
