These days we seem to be locked in the jaws of a vicious and unrelenting recession. The Middle East remains a powder keg ready to blow at any second. And who of us doesn't think of swine flu when someone sneezes in public?
When I consider each of these different scenarios, I regularly wonder just how much our expectations play in creating them and then maintaining them. We've all heard of the concept of self-fulfilling prophecies – a prediction is made and then things turn out just as predicted but in a way that seems to be down to our own involvement.
